Grounds Employee

NOTICE OF AN OPEN POSITION within the job classifications represented by the IUOE Local 324
PAY RATE: Per Master Contract. Current starting rate is $11.25/hour. Full-time position
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Jim Robinson, Director of Facilities
HOURS OF WORK: Primarily first shift hours. Exact hours to be determined by season and need.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record, an excellent attendance record; be self-motivated, positive, and team-orientated with the ability to work cooperatively with staff and students. Must have the ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Must have the ability to follow oral and written direction, operate a tractor and small equipment and possess, or be able to obtain, a CDL. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed and be willing to work seasonal work schedules as assigned. Licensing in certain technical areas may be required and must be maintained. Must be able to work both as a team member and independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Keeps the district's school buildings and grounds in such a state of operating excellence that they support and enhance the educational system by maintaining district grounds in a safe and well-groomed condition including:
Mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, rubbish/trash removal.
General care and maintenance of outdoor bleachers, including the replacement and painting of defective parts.
Cleaning and maintenance of outdoor public rest rooms.
Layout and mark all athletic game and practice fields.
Field preparation and policing of facilities and grounds for all outdoor athletic fields and surfaces.
Responsible for underground sprinkler scheduling to maintain the grounds and athletic fields.
Responsible for snow removal from all driveways, parking lots, and sidewalks as assigned and application of salt and sand during icy conditions.
Interior and exterior painting of facilities.
Application of herbicides in compliance with laws and regulations (as assigned by the Facilities Manager).
Responsible for assigned school vehicle/equipment including up keep and preventive maintenance.
Will transport and deliver chairs, desks, equipment and supplies around the district as needed.
Provide maintenance (preventative and repair) of mowers and other equipment used including snow blowers for each building.
Responsible to follow safety regulations, wear personal protective equipment and perform all work in a safe a manner .
Some work on a computer will be necessary.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. Will frequently be required to reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to sit. Must frequently squat, stoop or kneel, reaching above the head and reaching forward. Continuously uses hand strength to grasp and climb onto ladders. Frequently bends or twists at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. Frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails, and unloading trucks. Will occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as salt and bulk furniture. Will sometimes work at heights up to 40 feet. Will push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
